Current Research My current research with Douglas A Nelson and Lisle H Gibbs investigates song dialects and mating success in the white-crowned sparrow (Zonotrichia leucophrys pugetensis) combining detailed behavioral observations in the field with genetic paternity analyses in the lab to test hypotheses about the cultural evolution of dialects.

2001 – 2004 My graduate research focused on mate choice and acoustic and visual communication in the blue tit (Parus caeruleus), particularly on how the social environment can influence interactions, in the lab of Torben Dabelsteen.
